5 High-Yield Healthcare Stocks for a Safe Retirement Portfolio
Today we highlight five safe healthcare stocks that can strengthen any retirement portfolio, healthy and ailing alike. While it is no secret that these industry leaders produce, it never hurts to take a look at a few of the reasons why. Here they are: Novartis AG ADR (NVS): This developer and manufacturer of healthcare products provides investors with a great deal of stability in the short- and long-term due to its operation across multiple segments and earnings growth potential in an industry that can at times be stagnant. While the branded pharmaceuticals segment profits from a mix of new pipeline products and existing drugs--often launching new drugs to offset the slowing growth of older ones--Novartis’ generic business, Sandoz, accounts for patent expirations by extending the life... more

Shopping Wal-Mart: Buy the Stock and Pocket an Attractive Yield
I've talked before about why I like Wal-Mart (WMT) as an investment. It's essentially a two-fold play: International - All of Wal-Mart's growth is international. It is growing its international business in a very effective manner - one that's very underrated by the investment community in my opinion (which means it's a good buying opportunity). Wal-Mart is opening new businesses in countries around the world, and wisely, it's not always a Wal-Mart store as we know them in America, but local businesses with local products. If you want international exposure, but don't know what foreign stocks to buy, you can essentially get a similar play by owning Wal-Mart. Depression - Back here in the States, Wal-Mart will hold up very well in what I view as a long-term stagnant economy where the... more
TJX Companies Boosts Dividend
TJX Companies Inc. (TJX) raised its quarterly dividend by 27%. The company’s Board approved a hike in the quarterly dividend to 19 cents per share to be paid on June 2, 2011 to stockholders of record on May 12, 2011. The increased dividend reflects the company’s sound financial position and well-defined future prospects. Signs of recovery in the economy have made share buybacks and dividend increases a common factor among companies sitting on ample cash. Apart from enhancing shareholders’ return, such a strategy lifts the market value of the stock. TJX recently reported that fiscal fourth-quarter earnings grew 12.0% to $1.05 per share from 94 cents in the year-ago period. The quarterly earnings beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.02. Profits were primarily driven by prudent... more
