Market transformation The worldwide motorsports industry is undergoing a major transformation. Toyota (NYSE: TM) introduced a new Camry car design for the 2017 season and dominated the series. Chevrolet (NYSE: GM) rolled out the new Camaro body style for the 2018 Daytona 500 season opener and reports abound that Ford (NYSE: F) will join its peers and have a replacement for its current Fusion body style - most likely branded as a Mustang - for the 2019 season. Additionally, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. - winner of the "Most Popular Driver" fan award for the past 15 consecutive years -, Danica Patrick - the only recent female participant in NASCAR's top-tier series - and Matt Kenseth - 20-year veteran and the 2003 champion - all announced departures from the series after the 2017 season.
Formula 1 - the world's most watched motorsports series - staged its 2017 season under new ownership of the Liberty Media Corporation (Nasdaq: FWONA) after more than 40 years under the direction of Bernie Ecclestone. Team Penske returned to sports car racing after an eighth-year absence and Formula E is gaining prominence and popularity in its fourth season.
